 June 11

Seemed like we would never leave Kansas, but we did, we hopped back on to Hwy 50, again, to make our way to Colorado Springs.  This stop was great as we were going to visit with more family, Walters Sister and her family.  It was also a good stopping point for a few days on our way west.  This time we set up camp at the Air Force Academy Famcamp.  I had never been to the Air Academy, what a beautiful Facility.  Walter had been there many times so he was not as impressed as me.  We did our normal routine and got the RV all set up as quickly as possible then headed out for some Mexican food and margaritas with the fam.

Next day we met for lunch at the Front Range Barbeque.  The menu listed a burger that had been highlighted on Dinner Dives and Drive-ins  called the “sloppy pig” holy moly what a sandwich it was.  In Walters true nature he ordered the sandwich and ate every bit of it.

Off to the Garden of the Gods, we did not walk any of the park as a storm was on the horizon but the beauty you can see from the car was fantastic.

Last day in Colorado Springs we were taken to Bishops Castle.  Bishops Castle is an intricate one-man project named after its constructor, the late Jim Bishop that has become a roadside attraction in Central Colorado.  The story of the castle is interesting.  It is hand built by Bishop and despite many legal battles and complaints that occurred over the years it still stands for all to see. Here are tons of pictures, it is the only way to show how impressive it was.

Finished off the day with a fantastic BBQ with the family who by the way were the best tour guides ever.
